Quote of the Week

“Look in those eyes… Listen to that dear voice… Notice the feeling of even a single touch that is bestowed upon you by that gentle hand! Make much of it while yet you have that most precious of all gifts. Read the unfathomable love of those eyes; the anxiety of that tone and look, however slight is your pain. In after life you may have friends, fonds, dears, but never you will have again the inexpressible love & gentleness lavished upon you which none but a mother bestows.” ~ Macauley

Personal Note from Cheryl

Hello %$firstname$%,

I was at Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre 7th Annual Spring Baby Shower this Sunday May 6th. There was live music, a bbq, pony rides, children’s games, a silent auction, live auction, wildlife boutique and tours of the facility. If you could not attend you can donate online now and all year at: www.sandypineswildlife.org

Looking after the silent auction at Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre’s Baby Shower this Sunday.  (Rita and Cheryl)

This is my 3rd year assisting with fundraising and the crowd increases each year – families love the venue. We raised close to $20,000 this year!

There are plenty of exciting workshops with me this spring and summer…  more details are on the website or send me an email for more information and your questions. There are more added each week, so please stay tuned.

Soulebrate – my dear friend Tara-jenelle Walsch has created a fabulous line of soulful cards for any occasion. The depth of the message is unlike anything else I have ever found – they are a m a z i n g! Here is her info:

Tara-jenelle is the founder and spirit behind Soulebrate & Soulcialize. In 1997, she received a major wake-up call when her life was put at risk due to the accumulative effects of a 7-year eating disorder and severe depression. After a 2 month hospitalization, she courageously chose to alter the course of her path and recover from both conditions; causing her to see feelings and the expression of them in a brand new way and restoring love for life and herself.

Now, through her commitment to helping others find freedom through voicing their heart, she is the writer and designer behind Soulebrate greeting cards, as well as other inspiring products that offer us an opportunity to be and express who we truly are inside. She speaks publicly about emotional awareness and a concept she calls, “Soulcialize,” which she believes creates soul connection and has the ability to enrich the world at large.

For more information on Tara-jenelle, where to purchase retail or wholesale Soulebrate greeting cards or how to set up a speaking engagement, please visit:  http://www.soulebrate.com or email her directly at tarajenelle@soulebrate.com.

Mother’s Day Sentiments – With A Few Gift ideas Too

Mother’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to honour all of the women who are important to you. I have sent cards not only to my biological Mother, but my friends, my aunts, teachers, and my Grandmother when she was still here. I myself have received cards for being a doggie or kitty Mom. There are Mothers everywhere to be recognized for who they are and what they bring to our lives every single day. As I began writing this article, I recalled a poem I had written for my Mom years ago. I cannot locate it right now, but rest assured she has it safely tucked away.

I love my Mom for so many reasons. She is the only one who has known me this long and does she know me – like no one else does (okay my Dad does too). She loves me unconditionally despite my teenage years and all of the jokes I have played on her… and there have been many. I love how she laughs at my jokes, even when no one else finds them funny. I love how she has some of the little things I made or the hand drawn illegible cards from decades ago. There is nothing that will make a Mother part from the sentimental reminders from her offspring.

As I was growing up I remember saying things like: I’m not like my Mom at all, or I don’t look like her etc. Now as I do certain tasks or whip up a particular recipe, I will hear her voice or see myself doing it the same way. I see myself in her every day and you know what – I love it. And I love her for all she taught me along the way. We can be upset with our families for things that may or may not have happened – but when we understand they did the best they could at the time, maybe we can begin to love them more deeply. We are here to experience life and all of its lessons, especially with our families. Sometimes the lessons are hard – we may have to learn how to forgive, or how to truly love. Whatever the lesson may be – it helps us grow and become a better human being. One of my favourite lines from the book Interview With an Angel by Stevan Thayer is: “In life…there are no experiences extra and no experiences missing.” I can look at life differently when I truly take those words into my heart. I can let go of some of the why’s and why not’s, the self-judgement and see all experiences as lessons and gifts. Let’s love our Moms for who they are, for their generous giving nature and all the wonder they have brought into our lives.

As a way to honour your Mother on her special day, pick out something special to celebrate her. I would like to share some nifty gift ideas with you.  And yes, Moms often do have everything. What they absolutely love hands down is time with family. They always say they desire that more than anything, but here are a few ideas anyway:

  • My sister and I always include fresh flowers as a gift for this occasion because our Mom loves to garden and her flowers are yet to bloom. This makes her smile until they do.
  • Take your Mom out shopping. My Mom loves it when I take her out and we browse and she gets my honest opinion about what looks fabulous (and younger).
  • Pick up some top of the line indulgent bath items; bubble bath, essential oils, luxurious foot and body creams. Maybe some new pj’s and a thick terry robe to put on after a bath. (I always include some cozy socks.)
  • A handmade card  – who cares how old you are – they never tire of receiving it! And include all of the reasons you love her as the message.
  • I am a big fan of seeking out the first edition of a favourite book.
  • Wicked dark chocolate treats, or maybe some cookies or cupcakes for the teacher who mothers everyone all day (to share with the class).
  • I love to give gorgeous note cards for keeping in touch the old-fashioned way – and add a few stamps too!
  • I have given gift cards to a favourite nursery, to go and pick some new treats for the garden.Fantastic coffee they would rarely buy for themselves and a new coffee mug that reminds them of how special they are to you.
  • Gift certificates for some spa time: hair, nails, facial, pedicure, massage.
  • A great new trendy cookbook.
  • Magazine subscription to one she rarely indulges in, but loves.
  • Dinner and a movie out together; or a voucher for one included in the card.
  • Some fun costume jewellery, or maybe a family ring with each person’s birthstones.
  • A great new scarf (Hermes anyone!)
  • A new set of fabulous wine glasses or cocktail glasses for entertaining.
  • One year my sister and I bought her a whole new set of patio furniture complete with new chairs pads, and set it all up on the deck for a surprise when she got up in the morning and looked out the kitchen window.

Happy Mother’s Day to Moms everywhere!!!

As always I am here to support you in this life journey of ours and love your feedback.
